- The Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute has announced the winners of the 5th Cradle to Cradle Product Design Challenge, including MyEcoWall, a mobile acoustic wall made from Ecovative mushroom material and Scout, a children’s jacket that “grows” with the child. The Challenge is the fifth in an initial series of six circular design challenges that incentivize and inspire the design community to envision viable product design solutions for the circular economy using Cradle to Cradle product design principles.

- BASF further strengthens its operations network for certified palm products: Meanwhile the company manufactures certified ingredients at 20 locations around the world for the cosmetic, detergent and cleaning agent industries. This production network also includes the BASF factories at Gebze (Turkey) and Dahej (India): they have now received the Supply Chain Certificate of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) as BASF announced on the occasion of the RSPO’s fifth annual European Roundtable in London.

- The European PET Bottle Platform (EPBP) has given interim approval for the recyclability of polyethylenefuranoate (PEF), produced by Synvina C.V., Amsterdam, in the European bottle recycling market. Following EPBP’s assessment PEF bottles are expected to be disposable through existing recovery systems the same way as polyethylene terephthalate (PET), the conventional material for plastic bottles. The interim approval applies to a PEF market penetration of up to 2%.

- Stage one of the three-phase construction project of the Noor solar complex was set in motion in February 2016. Innovative solutions based on the BASF Construction Chemicals division's global knowledge and experience are used in the construction of the concentrated solar power system – a more complicated process to install than the widely used photovoltaic panels.
Several BASF products were used in the construction of this project such as concrete admixtures, grout, mortars, sealants, and joint water-resistant sealants.
“We are proud that we are able to contribute our innovative solutions and know-how to help our customers master the challenges of this complex construction project,” says Andres Monroy, Managing Director, BASF Northwest Africa.

- BASF has signed an agreement to acquire US-based company ZedX, a leader in the development of digital agricultural intelligence. The acquisition is expected to be completed within four weeks.
ZedX’s expertise lies in the development of agronomic weather, crop, and pest models that can rapidly translate data into insights for more efficient agricultural production. With the planned acquisition, BASF strengthens its digital farming footprint and further invests in helping growers take advantage of the increasing amount of big data generated in farming and beyond.

- BATON ROUGE, LA, and GEISMAR, LA, April 6, 2017 – Louisiana State University (LSU) officials joined BASF executives in the public unveiling of the BASF Sustainable Living Laboratory on campus. The Lab, which is the first-of-its-kind at LSU and in the Southeast region, is an innovative space that promotes problem-based teaching and research focused on sustainable solutions to meet global challenges. As part of BASF's workforce development and science education efforts in the region, the Lab is the result of a $1 million donation BASF made to LSU Foundation and the College of Engineering first announced in 2014.
