Doug Winter

Farmer

Doug Winter operates a 3,000-acre grain farm in southeastern Illinois producing soybeans (commercial and seed), corn (generic, food grade and specialty), wheat, and grain sorghum. He is a fifth-generation farmer managing land that was first purchased, cleared and drained by his great-great grandfather in 1869.

The row-crop operation includes several soil types and terrains ranging from flat, dark and lighter textured silt loams to rolling to highly rolling silt clay and incorporates tillage and cropping practices including cover crops, no-till, mulch-till and conventional tillage. Winter serves as one of four farmer/directors representing Illinois on the United Soybean Board, a national check-off funded soybean promotion board.
