PAWTUCKET, R.I. -- Hasbro, Inc. (NASDAQ: HAS) is proud to announce it ranked No. 1 on Newsweek’s 2016 Green Rankings, released today. The ranking assesses the 500 largest publicly traded companies in the United States on overall environmental performance.

“Our purpose is to make the world a better place for children and their families, and to us, a big part of that is taking care of the planet for future generations,” said Brian Goldner, Hasbro's Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer. “While we’re proud to be ranked No. 1, we believe that every day is a chance to be better, and we will continue to push ourselves to minimize the environmental footprint of our operations, products and packaging, and to foster a culture of environmental responsibility. Sustainability is a key priority for our company and we’re honored to receive this prestigious recognition as we continue to create the world’s best play experiences.”

Hasbro focuses its environmental sustainability efforts in three key areas: reducing the environmental impacts of products and packaging, partnering with vendors to source and distribute Hasbro products in an environmentally conscious way, and minimizing the environmental footprint of operations. The company also engages employees, consumers and communities to promote a culture of environmental responsibility.

“Through our Sustainability Center of Excellence, we drive our environmental blueprint across the global organization with a focus on uniting our facilities and teams around the world to advance our environmental commitments,” said Kathrin Belliveau, Senior Vice President, Global Government, Regulatory Affairs and Corporate Social Responsibility, Hasbro. “We recognize that, to create even greater change, sustainability must become a seamless part of our operations as we move to the next phase in our evolution as a responsible company.”

Newsweek’s 2016 Green Rankings is based on research from Corporate Knights Capital and HIP Investor including data from Bloomberg’s Professional Service and features eight rules-based indicators to help assess and measure the environmental performance of the world’s largest publicly traded companies.

As a global company that produces millions of products every year, Hasbro recognizes that its business has an impact on the environment. The company’s commitment to environmental sustainability has led the company to evaluate and reconsider every element of its business – from product and packaging design to manufacturing, logistics, and operations – in search of opportunities to continuously improve.

As the company improves environmental practices, it grows stronger overall – through more efficient processes, lower operating costs, and a greater focus on innovation across our brands. This recognition builds on Hasbro’s leadership in environmental sustainability, which was recently featured on CR Magazine’s 100 Best Corporate Citizens list and the US RepTrak® 100 list by Reputation Institute, which tracks the most reputable companies in the United States. Earlier in the year, Hasbro was recognized as a 2016 World's Most Ethical Company® by the Ethisphere Institute, a global leader in defining and advancing the standards of ethical business practices.
